How to Claim Your NetID & Set Passwords

NetID

Your NetID is a name assigned to you that is unique across all University of Illinois campuses. It serves as your login for many University computing and networking services and also determines your University email address, which is netid@illinois.edu. Your NetID must be "claimed" before you can set your NetID password and other passwords.

Obtaining your NetID

To claim your NetID, you will need your activation code and your University Identification Number (UIN), and the NetID Claiming Service URL.

What is your activation code? Answer: Your activation code is an exclusive encrypted code assigned to you to claim your NetID.

What is a UIN? Answer: Your University ID Number (UIN) is a string of nine digit numbers beginning with a six that the University assigns to students for identification purposes. Your UIN is unique and will never change.

Where to find this information?

CITL nondegree students: Your activation code and University Identification (UIN) is sent to you from CITL Enrollment Management Staff. This information is sent to your personal email account(s) as indicated by you while completing your online enrollment form.

If you’re a returning CITL nondegree student and need account activation information, you will also receive this information by email from CITL Enrollment Management Staff.
