The University of Illinois School of Information Sciences (The iSchool at Illinois) is recognized as a premier institution, consistently named the top LIS school in the nation. iSchool has earned its reputation by creating pioneering and innovative educational opportunities, including the oldest extant LIS doctoral program in the country, our award-winning Leep online learning program and an advanced degree in digital libraries. After completing two required courses, students are encouraged to work with their advisor to customize their own program of study that supports their professional goals. Our faculty and staff encourage students to approach the program creatively, drawing upon their passions and skills in innovative ways that allow them to build a fulfilling career.

The MS/LIS requires 40 credit hours of coursework, including two required courses as well as electives chosen by the student.

Decision notification date: November 3
Last day to accept admission offer: December 1

Final application deadline for summer/fall admission: January 15
Decision notification date: February 23
Last day to accept admission offer for summer: April 15
Last day to accept admission offer for fall: May 1

Applicants are encouraged to submit their application materials before or on the priority deadline in order to be considered for merit-based scholarships. Scholarships will be based on a holistic review of all submitted application materials. Scholarship offers will be made at the same time as the offer of admission. We will continue to accept applications until the final deadline date. To promote the academic success of incoming graduate students, we ask that all admitted students accept their admissions offer on or before the deadline listed.
