Ranked the No. 2 online mechanical engineering master's degree program by U.S. News & World Report, the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) Online program focuses more on research and has both a thesis and non-thesis option.  All MS students are admitted as thesis-option students. If a student decides to pursue the non-thesis MS, s/he must submit the Departmental “Non-Thesis” Petition to request to switch to the non-thesis option.

As one of the oldest departments within the university, the Mechanical Science and Engineering Department (MechSE) at Grainger has provided curricula and support services for many decades, earning a reputation among engineering education professionals as one of the most respected programs in the nation.  MechSE offers unparalleled strengths in key fundamental areas, such as biomechanical sciences, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer, applied physics, chemistry, dynamics and controls, computational science, and applied math.

Through this fully online program, you will increase the depth of your technical background while still having the flexibility and benefits of working full-time if you choose. Online students complete the same requirements as on-campus students, and they receive the exact same degree as our on-campus students.
