Teacher Leader Specialization

College of Education

Teacher Leader Specialization is intended to increase the quality of leadership, teaching and learning practices, as well as recognize the critical importance that leadership by teachers brings to the overall school improvement mission of the school. The program will create a career path to retain and develop high-performing teachers for leadership roles; formalize, define, and build the competencies necessary for high-quality leadership to improve student learning; and recognize and encourage shared leadership and decision-making in schools to maximize outcomes for children. The program is for practicing educators at all levels with at least two years of successful full-time experience as an educator who want to increase their effectiveness as a teacher, pursue positions such as instructional coach, department chair, or development coordinator, or pursue a Teacher Leader Endorsement on their Illinois Teaching License.
