Non-Credit Students

Noncredit Students

Enrollment

Individuals who enroll in noncredit classes are not formally admitted to the University of Illinois as a degree or nondegree student. Individuals typically enroll in noncredit courses for personal enrichment and or professional development. Noncredit classes offer individuals the opportunity to learn, grow, and improve professionally without receiving academic credit or a final grade.

  • Individuals wanting to enroll in noncredit online courses through the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning, use the Noncredit Online Enrollment Form.
  • Individuals are responsible for knowing enrollment costs before submitting a registration.
  • Enrollment costs are provided in the course descriptions under Course Search.
  • Individuals are responsible for knowing if a noncredit course has course prerequisites that must be met. Prerequisite information is also listed in the course descriptions.
  • CITL reserves the right to cancel a noncredit course because of low enrollments, instructor illness, technology barriers, or other similar reason.
  • The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign DOES NOT accept ANY tuition and fee waivers as a form of payment in noncredit programs.

Drops and Refund Policy

Noncredit Courses

  • If a student drops a course before the first day of instruction, there is an 80% refund of course costs if our office receives the Noncredit Change of Status form by 5 p.m. (CST) the day before the class starts.
  • When a student drops a course (using the Noncredit Change of Status form) after a class has begun, there is no refund.
  • In online courses that are not semester-based and may start any time, a student who submits a Noncredit Change of Status form within two weeks of the enrollment confirmation e-mail from us receives an 80% refund of course costs; there is no refund for dropping a course after that point.
  • If an academic unit or CITL cancels a noncredit course, all registered students will receive a full (100%) refund.
